Bridget Wheatley is an esteemed jeweller who resides and operates her craft in Oxfordshire.

Bridget epitomizes the term designer/maker with an instinctive talent and curiosity which has stayed with her from childhood. From an early age she was busy with all manner of needlework and knitting with a huge influence from both her sister’s and both Grandmothers.

The three images above are pieces of jewellery from her degree show.

Bridget is now working from a purpose built studio in her garden to focus on her hand crafted, bespoke and small run collections. While her style evolves and remains instinctive; her quality and wear-ability remains unaltered.

Her recent additions to the ‘Fauna’, ‘Bird’ & ‘Into the woods’ collections reflect her love of three-dimensional, sculptural work and takes inspiration from her love of animals and the natural world. Other inspiration comes from the wonder of the ancient world and the universe that is reflected in the ‘Sun & Moon’ collection.

Recently, Bridget has learnt that one of her Great, Great Granddad’s was a sculptor, working in wood and stone. He was originally from Yorkshire and moved to London, which is where my Mother family lived in the 1930’s. This knowledge has given me a huge feeling of satisfaction and that I was right to follow my instincts.

In 1995 she moved to Oxford to open her first shop ‘Uniikki’ on the multi-cultural Cowley Road. In 2000 her venture took her to 38 Cowley Road, earning a reputation for her gem-set rings and her bold….sometimes delicate….but always striking collections. The shop also stocked an eclectic collection of Contemporary Jewellery from British maker’s. The shop window displays were a joy to create and caused a sensation with customer’s. Nature inspired window, paper mache animals & birds seen below & right. This window inspired the making of the ‘Leaping Hare’ jewellery and the subsequent nature inspired collections.
